Families are eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House if they live outside of the Las Vegas area and have a seriously ill child (age 21 or under) that is receiving medical treatment in Las Vegas. Families must be referred by a social worker, Medical Doctor, or nurse. The majority of families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Las Vegas are here because of a trauma/accident or a premature birth. We also see a lot of families from rural areas who are in Las Vegas to see a specialist for their child’s condition. SERVICES The House provides an oasis for families to renew their spirits, rest and unwind. We have everything you’d expect to find in a home, including food, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and more. Each family is given refrigerator and pantry space to store their own food, and the laundry facilities are free and fully stocked with detergent and fabric softener. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, including holidays. The office is located inside the House, and there is at least one staff person on property 24 hours a day. Families have 24 hour access to the facility and a shuttle service is available to transport those families who do not have a way to get to and from the hospital. Volunteers in the Las Vegas community provide our families with home-cooked dinners, baked goods, toys, and holiday items. Funds from our Pop Tab program are used to assist families with things such as travel costs, clothing, medicine, and the costs associated with the death of a child. The Ronald McDonald House asks for a donation of $10 per night, per family, but families are never turned away if they’re unable to pay. The “Share A Night” fund covers the cost for families who cannot pay. Because we do not have maid service, families are expected to clean up after themselves. When a family checks out of a room, they must clean the bathroom, vacuum, wash the linens, and empty the waste baskets (all cleaning materials are provided). |
